Poncho

So tonight I was gifted by mother nature with a baby turkey. It had wandered too close to home and my pets had been trying to attack it, so we saved the dear little thing.

We've learned from this experience, that baby turkeys released from their nest at 3 weeks to tackle their worlds on their own. At 3 weeks they have the instincts needed to survive, for example, foraging and flying.

I have dubbed the turkey Poncho, and we will be returning them to nature tomorrow morning. I feel a little sad about this. After caring for it this evening, I've grown quite fond and proud of Poncho. They've managed to successfully fly across my room and I've managed to successfully give it water through an eye dropper. I'm worried that it'll be eaten by something else or that it will feel lonely and scared.

If this is what I'm like after one evening, I cannot even bear the thought of what it might like when I have my own little human terrors/darlings. For the day that I would have to let them go into the big world on their own, after spending years raising them. Being born a worrier, I'd probably spend most nights awake doing just that. I wonder how it feels for my own mother, who already has two who have left the nest. I wonder what it feels like when they call her for advice or share with her about some not so great moments. Does her heart ache a little, wishing she could be right there giving them a hug?

I suppose this is life, something we all must live and in some times, endure.

I know deep down Poncho will be alright, that they'll find their way and their life will be what it is meant to be. I'm grateful, for this short time that I've had with them. Sometimes it's the small things that open our eyes in a big way.

P.S. To all the kind souls that gave their beautiful words of support and advice, I thank you. It is those comments that remind me of how amazing this world can be. That even people I've never met can be so willing to help me.  So from the bottom of my heart, thank you. Self-love is not something I'm good at, but I aim to get better.

My beauty journey

From as far back as I can remember I've never been the girl to be complimented for her looks. My appearance never quite as graceful as the other females in my life, due to my awkward haircuts and pudgy body. As a result I've spent most of my life feeling quite the ugly duckling, a feeling that has been heavily influenced by the people in my life.

Around the time I was 12-13 years old I decided that I no longer wanted to be the chubby girl and I took up running. I became addicted quite quickly. My new love for running and feeling fit bled into my relationship with food and I began to strive for what I believed was a holistic definition of health. I realise now health does not just constituent of only food and exercise. Steadily the weight dropped off. My family were keen to take photos and for the first time my Dad complimented me on how good I looked.

Then my love turned into an obsession and I developed an eating disorder. The steady weight loss turned into a landslide. I was so happy because I finally had cheekbones and I could wear all the clothes I'd only dreamed of wearing. However, people's compliments quickly turned into concerns. At first I chose to ignore them, then one day something clicked or maybe it was over time and I started to put on weight again, people said I looked 'healthy'. Without intending, those words made me feel ugly and fat, and I ballooned again.

My cheekbones disappeared, as did the hipbones, ribcage and vertebrates, all under a pile of feelings. Although I felt huge, my hair was healthier and my boobs reached an impressive cup size, for my 15 year old self. Unlike before, where I was complimented on my sporty body, my boobs became the new centre of attention. However, although I enjoyed my new bust, I never quite felt comfortable, I turned to running again and went back to being to a more 'normal' weight again.

For a little while there I felt pretty darn good, I had cut off my long hair and people told me it suited my face and made it more feminine. While the eczema on my skin had cleared and I no longer felt embarrassed to show my face and so I stopped wearing foundation.

Over the years, my monster and I have continued to struggle for space inside of my head, as a result my body weight has fluctuated with the battle. However, one thing I've never failed to notice is how many compliments I've received when I've managed to 'lose a few'. Guys would tell me how good my body looked and even my female friends would tell me how banging by bod was. Although it was nice, I never quite felt beautiful or attractive. Especially as my skin began to break out more and more.

When I moved to my new school I was so excited to meet new people and have a fresh start. Although edging on the larger side, I was no longer the weird pale kid. I met a guy and he started to call me gorgeous and beautiful, all the words I had craved to hear but had never heard at my old school. I started to like him and he asked me out and I said yes. Things happened and we broke up and I learned that the whole time he had been pretty excited about the size of my boobs. I no longer felt gorgeous.

I remember one time I was lamenting to my friend about how I wished I could be beautiful like those girls in my grade. She agreed that I wasn't quite as beautiful as those girls, because they were really beautiful. I had my kind of beauty that just took a while for some to realise. I'm not going to lie, it kind of cut me deep.

I no longer have enough fingers and toes to count the amount of times I've been hanging out with friends in public and have watched guy after guy check them out. While I stand beside them feeling more and more like an ugly duckling. Or the times all the girls at work have complained about how some guy hit on them again, while I'm lucky if a guy my age chooses to come through my register by choice.

When I started uni I was excited to meet new people and make new friends. I was also excited that I might finally get a boyfriend so I could finally say yes to when my relatives asked me, 'so, do you have a boyfriend yet?'. I did, as you know already, but that didn't last. Which is quite okay by me, because it was after watching The Lizzie Bennet Diaries, that I realised why it never felt right. He never made me feel quite that good about myself when we were actually together. He also never told me that I looked pretty or beautiful. Not even when his friend was going on about how gorgeous I was did he say anything. He even once told me that maybe I should do more sit ups, after I complained about how I didn't like my stomach. I don't know if it was vain to expect that of boyfriend, to be called beautiful or pretty. I still don't know.

In the past three months I've taken to wearing make up, due to more break outs. In that time I've had more compliments than ever about how beautiful and pretty I look. It's funny what can happen to your face when you add a little blush and mascara. My friends tell me I'm pretty and my Dad even compliments me for the first time since I was that thin, clear faced 14 year old self. Telling me that I'm such a natural beauty, little does he know he's saying that to foundation, mascara and blush.

The other night I went to a party, I put on my face again, wore an outfit that didn't make me look bad and I've been working on my posture, so I don't slump as much. I was told by one of my guy friends that it's a surprise that I don't have a boyfriend, especially with a body like mine. Little did he know I've been trying to lose weight again and it's only at times like these that people ever say that to me. Did I turn heads though? You bet I didn't.

I know my self worth shouldn't come from my looks but just for once I would just love to feel beautiful and to have someone else believe that I am.

What makes a day?

Today my neighbour lost his fight with cancer. He was diagnosed about a year and a bit ago, but unfortunately the treatment just hasn't been working its magic.  Today was also his birthday. Imagine that? Leaving this world the same day you were birthed into it.

I also wonder how his sons and wife are coping. I'm assuming sadness, because death is rarely glorious. I wonder if they feel relief? And then guilt for being relieved that it's over, there is no more treatment trials or super healthy diets. No more waking up and wondering if today is the day that he'll breathe his last breath. But then again, I suppose the pain of his death will only take over the old pain.

Yesterday I visited our local Ronald McDonald House . The lovely lady who showed us around shared a video about some of the families who have stayed or are staying in a Ronald McDonald House somewhere. One story that really struck a chord was that of a mother whose two year old son has a brain tumour. She made the comment about how one typical Saturday, after she'd noticed something wasn't right, she went in for a check up and that they'd been 'stuck here ever since'.

How funny/weird/odd that in a split second one typical, run-of-the-mill kind of day can be transformed into a date that will stay etched in your mind forever. Whether it be a death, a wedding, a birth, the day you took your son into the hospital and found out he had a brain tumour, anything...absolutely anything.

Pain is necessary, but so is love

Do not look for a sanctuary in anyone except your self.
—  Siddhārtha Gautama

*Things were going swell with the African, I was happy, he was happy, we were happy.
*Then things started to not feel so swell...
*I started to feel things were not right with us.
*I listened to my gut instincts and broke it off.
*We stayed friends because he wanted to be friends.
*He kept trying to win me back, I remained where I was.
*He then tried to guilt trip me, I remained where I was (I am my mother's daughter).
*He then stopped talking to me.
*I found out he hooked up with a girl.
*I was hurt because I liked being friends with him and it was then I kind of realised he was using me to fill his emptiness (also, actions speak louder than words).
*He then started talking to me again.
*I'm still hurt because I feel foolish for believing in someone.
*And I don't know if I'm being unreasonable.

So now my heart and mind are a mess but I guess these things happen. I do know that I do not feel romantically for the African, that I only feel friendship. We just weren't suited for each other in the end. But I just can't stop analysing what were were and how I could have been so easily misled by his character. I know he's not a bad person, he's actually a very generous person, just a person who's looking for something to fill the void. He's a blackhole.

I’m not the silly romantic you think. I don’t want the heavens or the shooting stars. I don’t want gemstones or gold. I have those things already. I want…a steady hand. A kind soul. I want to fall asleep, and wake, knowing my heart is safe. I want to love, and be loved.

I just hope that one day I can find someone who wants to be with me because they like me not because they want a relationship.

Dear You - I know who I'm writing to now

Dear You,

You sure do work in mysterious ways, don't you? There I was scared of vulnerability and affection, then bam! you sent 'the boy' my way. A boy who is very tall and has dark hair, just like she told me he would be. A boy who I met outside somewhere where people go and dance. A boy who understands I have walls and secrets and monster in my head, but doesn't care anyway. In fact, he actually wants to help breakdown those walls and secrets and monsters. A boy who said he likes me for my intelligence and the fact that I know books. He even likes the fact that I have short hair. Although, he did admit my boobs are pretty nice.
Okay, it did take me a while to not hate him for making me all giggly and hopeful and to admit that I did like him . Thank god for Ears and Moon Child and Hippy, for not letting me give up and freak out. But I do, I really like this boy.
Especially the way he plays with my fingers.
We've both talked about not wanting to be in each other pockets and to remind each other of our passions and goals.
So thank you, for sending this weird and wonderful boy my way. A boy who most importantly makes me feel safe.

Lots of love,
Fliss.

Another Love

Dear you,

"I wanna cry and I wanna love,
but all my tears have been used up,
on another love, another love,
all my tears have been used up,"

I'm really starting to develop a wonderful knack for being attracted to taken guys. I told Ear this little fact and she thinks it's a subconscious effort not to get in a relationship, as that would mean being vulnerable and that would be too scary.
I think she's right.
I hate showing emotions, especially love. I don't know why that is though, I never used to be this way. It all changed when Ernie came into my life.
I envy Perfect and Moon Child for their ability to love so openly and fully. To be romantic without fear.
Maybe one day I'll get there.

All my love xx

I Couldn't Wait To

I couldn't wait to grow up and go to school just like my big brothers
I couldn't wait to go away overseas and use my Minnie the Mouse backpack
I couldn't wait to go home and brag to all my friends
I couldn't wait to do my weather report presentation
I couldn't wait to go on lunch break during that mad handball craze
I couldn't wait until our math time was over
I couldn't wait to go to drama class in year 8
I couldn't wait to be skinny like all of my friends
I couldn't wait to go to art lessons with our hippie teacher
I couldn't wait to perform in Spamalot and Wakakirri
I couldn't wait to beat Wally in that cross country race
I couldn't wait to go on camp to this Island with my two best friends
I couldn't wait to start my first day at my brand new school
I couldn't wait to join the community club
I couldn't wait to see the end my first History exam
I couldn't wait to reach year 12 and sit up the back
I couldn't wait to graduate and finally be in the 'real world'
I couldn't wait to start university and my brand new life

Then I blinked and all the anticipation was gone,
These moments have been and gone and moved on

Life moves on...

Floating Through The Past

Year 8
* Reminds me of that band camp out to 'whoop whoop', where we stayed in a haunted hotel. I had been sitting in my hotel room alone when I heard this song for the first time. And continued to listen to it on repeat for ages *
"Heaven doesn't seem so far away anymore"

Year 9
* I remember listening to this on repeat when I was totally in love with Giant, who never seemed to notice me *
"Can you lie next to her,
And give her your heart, heart"

Year 10
* Walking under honeysuckle trees and past falling down gates on my way to and from work, sipping on pasito *
"You're to clean white love,
I give my heart on the morning of November 6th,
Oh, everybody's looking for a fix"

Year 11
* Those times where I felt hopeful about the world while waiting at the bus stop or walking along the river *
"I've been in through your garden,
And I've been to your grave"

Year 12
Of Monsters and Men - Love, Love, Love
* Stumbling upon this song randomly on youtube and thinking to myself that this song describes so well my heart's workings *
"Cause you love, love, love,
When you know I can't love"

The bottom of the pot of tea

Things that I'm grateful for:

* M buying me some more of this really awesome moisturiser, that's also really expensive
* Cups and cups of tea
* Weather that doesn't make you melt like the Wicked Witch of the West
* Vegetarian cookbooks that have realistic recipes (for me at least)
* Having a wonderful, wonderful, wonderful time on placement
* When Deer sends me pretty music - check it out :)

Things that I'm proud of:

* Getting better at driving a manual car
* That my sunflowers are continuing to grow
* Finding out that I'm actually do really well with all my study

Thing that are making me a little sad:

* Having to talk to really good friends online because they are too far away to see in person
* Not having much time to volunteer anymore
* Money problems

Other things:

* Realising that Duck not making an effort really doesn't bother me at all, despite how it made me feel last year. In fact, it has made me a little relieved.

side note: I've decided I'm going to start posting more of my own photos on  here, starting with this one.

Time Capsules

When I was in year 10 and completely freaking about 'the big move', I created a time capsule. There was one for beautiful things I had collected. Then there was one for thoughts. Questions to reflect upon, what I had wore, wrote, done, eaten  that day and just random musings. Then when I was in year 12 and completely freaking about 'the big shake-up' I made one again. Except this time with just thoughts.
It's really interesting to look back on the person I was and in some cases still am. To see the things I thought were the most important things in the world. And it turns out they're right, none of it really matters in the end. Those exams I cried silly tears over and stressed out like I couldn't believe. However, today I would like to share with you the questions I asked and the answers I'm giving.

How is university?
At the beginning it hit me like a tonne of bricks, almost literally, but more like a tonne of books and bills. Now though, I feel a lot more calmer about it all. I know that this semester was just about finding my feet and next semester I know what I can improve on. Reflection - you use it all the time in both nursing and midwifery. I know that I'll need to be on my feet more though, midwifery goes up another gear. The people though, lovely, lovely, lovely. I've made some really beautiful friends and not quite with the people I expected to either. I'm still a butterfly though, not quite able to settle.
Who are you still in contact with?
I hardly talk to Miss B, Nose, Duck or Greg Is Awesome anymore, which is weird because last year I couldn't live without them. When we do message each other, it's always awkward and short. None of us really divulging all our secrets, our cards much closer to our chests. I've been talking to That's Cute heaps, mostly because I realised that someday I will have to get over my fear that I'm boring and that I can't make conversation. I talk heaps to Hippie and Ears, which I'm still up in the air about whether or not that's a good thing. They're not the best influences. Moonchild and I still write essays, which I love. 'The Girls' and I have nice long chats here and there, which is comforting. I still miss a lot of people though and I just wish we were all back at school so I can hold their faces in my hands and just look into their eyes and see if they're okay. Also hug them, I miss hugging.
Who are your friends?
Some of the weirdest, loudest and funniest people ever. There's Potato, who's quite literally obsessed with potatoes and all that they stand for. Which is apparently peace. Then there's Asian J and Asian M, who are so loud and noisy that you almost feel invisible. There's the beautiful Nepal and Writer, two quiet souls in the background. Then there's Blondie, who is probably the least likely person I thought I'd make friends with. And Richmond, from my old school who I was actually glad to leave behind when I left. Then there are the other lovely people who have just been so supportive and generous and ugh, beautiful (there's that word again). I'm grateful, I really am.
Have you been in a relationship yet?
No, I'm still awkward as fuck when it comes to guys. Plus, my course is kind of lacking straight guy interaction - but that's okay, I'm not ready for a boyfriend. I don't even know how to love myself yet.
What do you do for yourself?
I've found that reading actually helps and I've realised that was probably half the problem last year. I didn't read enough. There is nothing more wonderful then escaping into a book. I've also started to grow sunflowers, which is the scariest thing ever because they're really growing. I've been planting out the seedlings lately and I'm super nervous about any of them dying. I've accidentally killed a few and I know I have a whole bag full of seed, they're still my babies. It's made me realise how magical and precious life is. I've also taken up meditation and have found that I've been able to do it quite consistently. I've picked up the camera again and I had forgotten how good it feels between my fingers. A year of surprises.
How was Shave For A Cure?
One word - empowering. Also a few more -  a great social experiment/experience.
How's work?
More fun that it used to be, mostly because I've started to build friendships there. It's also a bit sad because I know that most of the people graduate or leave soon. I guess that's the point, nothing lasts forever. The usual customer behaviours are grating my nerves and I'm working on not letting it get to me. I've also found it's great practice for nursing and midwifery. As well as, learning on how to reflect on first impressions, or second, or third. It makes me want to be a better person and to think more carefully of the words and actions that I choose.
How are the family?
T and V are engaged! It's so very exciting and wonderful. I'm so extremely happy for them, to the point I've surprised myself. It's weird being an only child and I'm still going through the motions of trying to love my parents. I'm getting on better with D than I used to, but it's hard. I just don't know why though.

I would apologise for writing so much, but I'm starting to learn that I don't have to apologise for existing. For having thoughts and writing them down. It's important that we all stop doing that though.

What's in a name?

"My name isn't Offred, I have another name, which nobody uses now because it's forbidden. I tell myself it doesn't matter, your name is like your telephone number, useful only to others; but what I tell myself is wrong, it does matter. I keep the knowledge of this name like something hidden, some treasure I'll come back to dig up, one day. I think of this name as buried. This name has an aura around it, like an amulet, some charm that's survived from an unimaginably distant past. I lie in my single bed at night, with my eyes closed, and the name floats there behind my eyes, not quite within reach, shining in the dark.”

Stranger/Acquaintance: What do you like to be called?
Me: I don't know...anything starting with F, really.
S/A: How about Flick?
Me: Yeah that's fine, I get called all sorts of names, like
* Flick: my grade 2 teacher and majority of the people I know.
* Fliss: my old art teacher, Miss B, the Trafalgar family.
* Flea: 2nd mum's husband.
* Phil/Philly: the Trafalgar cousins back when we were kids.
* Floss: the soccer/cricket/rugby union mums, M.
* Fly: That's cute, Ears and Bus Buddy, but only when they first met me.
*  Lissie: the name I wanted but never took off.

And there are the names I've always hated and never mention, Flicky-dicky, Flickity, Flicker....

***

Somehow I respond to all of them and each one belongs to a different me. It's weird though, just how much our name becomes a part of our identity. Given to us when we are born or sometimes before that. Or how certain names can mean so much to us, all you have to do is hear them and instantly you connect it with something. A feeling, a memory or a particular relationship. Then there are the names you want to name things or your own children. I've always liked the names Delilah and Noah. Then there's Marigold and possibly the name Bruce, just because it's such a quirky funny name. There are the names of the people we're going to meet, which may just be repeats of the names we already know. I know several Sams, but only one Stella. I've met few other Felicitys but I've met plenty of Jess' and Rebekah/Rebeccas. On the internet, we create new names for all sorts of things, ourselves, our blogs, our tumblrs, our what-else-you-may-have. As a budding nurse I'll care for people who'll have a whole history attached to their names. And as a budding midwife as well, I'll birth people whose names will go on to mean something. No matter the name, it's important.

Hero Of The Story

I'm the hero of the story
Don't need to be saved
I'm the hero of the story
Don't need to be saved
I'm the hero of the story
Don't need to be saved
I'm the hero of the story
Don't need to be saved

It's al-right, it's al-right, it's al-right, it's al-right
It's al-right, it's al-right, it's al-right
It's al-right, it's al-right, it's al-right
It's al-right, it's al-right, it's al-right

Dot Points

* My soul is a sunflower, that has crinkled around the edges.
* The crocodile in that dream was a metaphor for something and I hate that metaphor.
* Girls don't need to grow their hair long because a guy says so.
* I mother my friends because that's what I do and it's what I'm there for.
* I'm weird, I'm dorky and I'm not afraid to show it.
* I hate Ernie, but at the same time I love him. Ugh.
* I just really, really want my hippie pants and elephant tank back. I wish she would just stop making excuses. It makes me worried.
* It made me really happy when I got my draft back for communications and she said nothing was wrong.
* I really just want to curl up in a corner and cry. And read Melina Marchetta, because for some reason her characters and story lines just soothe my heart.

What Is Love?

Me: How do you know when you're in love?
You.. I don't know how to explain it. But I guess it's like, you know when you read a brilliant book or see a profound picture and you love it? I don't mean it was a really really great book, I mean it was THE most life changing, phenomenal book you have ever read, your favourite possible book in the universe by far and so maybe it had a few spelling errors or something - you don't care because you LOVED those spelling errors - how adorably they were laced in the pages. You love the title, you love the font, the smell of the pages, the feel of absolute comfort when it seems to almost fit your hands, the way it makes you feel like your heart, your real heart is going to burst with all the emotion you hold for this book. You just want to love it with all of your being and for it to love you back would be the single most amazing concept you could fathom. Because this book is not your everything, no, but it is such a massive part of your heart. And it is the most beautiful thing in the world. And the fact that you have formed these emotions for it, you find amazing.. so the fact that someone else could see you the same way is b.e.a.u.t.i.f.u.l. Everything you see shines. It's like you're a child who has just discovered the sun. And you have moments where you will just stop in the middle of a public place and sit down to watch the clouds for a few minutes. Because the world is that beautiful to you. And you'll have this smile that comes from nowhere that will creep up on you so so much. Any glimpses of them you catch will take your breath away because you're smiling so much and sometimes you even can't help but burst out into laughter. Simply for being in love. You want to scream THANK YOU to the sky as if its raining stars and spin in circles til you fall down. Everything makes you laugh. You want to tell other people how absolutely much you LOVE this person and how fantastic this feeling is and how you've never felt it and could never even imagine it and you want to shout how beautiful they are and you want everyone to see that. I've just realised that I lost the book metaphor a long time ago haha. One big thing about love is that, like family, they may frustrate you at times and you may fight about things (or not), but you never want to hurt them - not really. You never would want to do something like cheat or deliberately lie, knowing that it will hurt them. Not all people have that apparently, but I believe it. Physically, when you kiss someone you love it's like wow. It may not be the whole firework shebang, but it feels special. Kissing some random can't be pleasant lustwise, even kissing a crush can feel good and emotionally nice and stuff but there's something a little electric in a kiss of love. Tingling. And your brain and heart and lungs pretty much freak out and have a spaz, and you cannot stop smiling for so long. And you just want to do it again and not ever stop because man, that was fucking awesome, what is in your lips geez man. That's if you're me though. And a kiss is like this physical connection to match the emotional connection so together it's like mega connection with this person which is SO COOL because WOAH CONNECTION. Then the rest of it, you kinda can't keep yourselves off each other and get close enough and everything is funny and adorable and beautiful and exciting and good. Personally, I want to hold their hand ALL THE TIME but that includes crushes and even friends and whatnot so yeah maybe forget that part. Remember that all this is only me personally, your experience of love could be massively different. But essentially, you know. You just know. You wonder for a while and then it just gets to a point where you're pretty much "yep I'm in love all right".
Put simply, you know you're in love when you understand why everyone says its the most amazing feeling and why there are so many books and songs and paintings solely on love. You'll finally understand what all the hype is about, and that it really is all it's made out to be, just as heartbreak is all it's made out to be too. Love is like an orgasm of the mind.
I may not be an expert, but that's all I know.
Oh and one last thing - it's often pretty different from how you expected to feel (well you pretty much couldn't possibly have expected it) or who. They'll usually be different from the type of person you expected to fall for. But you kinda like that.
Done now (:
Me: Wow.

Count your blessings before they are gone

Dear you,
Today I shaved my hair for 'Shave For A Cure'. It feels empowering and weird and I love it. But what I'm grateful for the most is that I have a choice to shave off my hair, knowing that'll it grow back. That I don't have cancer and that I'm healthy. My choice to be bald may be a representation of my fight against cancer, but it will never be the same. I'll never be quite as brave as those who have family members affected or those actually fighting the battle against cancer itself.  I also love that so many people have been so supportive and it has really restored my faith in humanity.
I also learnt to appreciate my very own 'groupies'.
I also learnt to be aware that sometimes people are hurting more than they appear to be.

I also love that being friends with Hippie and Converse means being invited to a whole group of independent and supportive people. Their families are just so absolutely out-of-this-world kind and generous. But at the same time abusive in the good kind of way.

Today was the day I started to feel the energies again and that makes me so happy.

I've been listening to certain music lately that reminds me of all the people I miss: Miss B, Nose, Greg Is Awesome, Bus Buddy and soon-to-be-gone That's Cute. I'm glad though for feeling these feelings, because it means I can feel something. It means I'm alive.

I want to learn to be more grateful though and learn how to say thank you more often again.

All my love and hugs and sunshine,
Fliss.

P.S. Sorry for the lack of comment and such, uni has been full on.

What I Would Like To Say To You But I Don't Know How:

I remember when the dearies known as Erimentha & Francesca used to do these. Right now this is therapy.

Heart To Heart

I had this dream once where I met this boy. In a rush of wonderful bliss we were getting married in this beautiful and old building. We were brimming with so much happiness. He picked me up and carried me out of the building and I remember looking up into his face and on it there was so much love and it was all for me. When I had woken up I had cried, because I had wished so hard for it not to be a dream.

But then life happened and truths were revealed and somehow I stopped believing in love.

* Just finished reading The Messenger by Markus Zusak...so good.

Murder In The City

This past week I've been volunteering at the local Endeavour place. It's a big factory that takes recycled goods and puts them to use. It also mostly hires intellectually disabled workers. It's been one of the most fantastic weeks of my life. Not only are the supported workers hilarious and amazing, but so are the supervisors. They're just a great bunch of people to be around. I thought that maybe it would be one of those life changing experiences that would just rearrange my whole perspective. It has, don't get me wrong, it just hasn't made me love my family any more than I do. Or those 'friends'. I still feel in a major rut, just stuck in the same feelings and actions. I've tried to change and show my family I can be different, but then they just hold me to my old self.
It's so amazing how quickly people can be to cage you, even if they complain about how horrible you are. How quickly we are to hold each other to 'our' personalities.

I just need to escape from here. Them.

Childhood Dreams

When I was little I had always wanted to be a checkout chick. I was obsessed with the tills and all their buttons, I even made one using buttons and a shoebox. It also had a toilet roll receipt dispenser and I used to put it on top of my mini ironing board. I would gather all my family to buy stuff from me. I wonder how my six year old self would react if she knew that I eventually became one.

She would probably be ecstatic.

River

I jam sticks into the cave
the flow still comes
the force of it makes me woozy
I can't stop, else I die
rushing, rushing, rushing, rushing,
purging the cave of it's goodness,
we can see it all,
gushing into the river
to flow away for another day
I crack, the sticks crack,
we go tumbling into the river
